FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much do your services cost?
Some fees may vary depending on the therapist you or your child sees; the services they provide and the extent of the assessment or intervention. You should always ask your therapist about the fees they charge.
We also offer a limited number of sliding fee options if there is a financial concern. These will always be up to the therapist to decide based on the need.
Can I receive reimbursement from my insurance company for LPW services?
We are a fee-for-service practice and don’t participate with any insurance panels. However, practically all of the clinical services provided by Lotus Point clinicians are insurance reimbursable and most of our clients receive reimbursement from their insurance carriers for services rendered by LPW clinicians.
How do I pay for services?
Payment by cash, check or credit card is due at the time of service. We prefer credit card or cash but if using checks, please make them payable to Lotus Point Wellness, Inc. We also ask that a credit card number be held in your file in case of missed or cancelled appointments with less than 48 hours notice (see our policies which states this information).
Are you a participating provider with any insurance carrier?
Lotus Point Wellness is a fee-for-service, or “private pay,” company so this means that we are considered “out-of-network” and only accept our full fee for services. We do not accept any insurance allowable or reimbursed rate to clients as payment for our services. You should always check with your insurance company to see what types of benefits they offer for mental health since it’s possible you can get some reimbursement for services.
Will you provide a superbill for submission to insurance companies?
Lotus point Wellness will provide a receipt after each session and a Superbill at the end of the month, by email, which will give you all the information you need to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Why don’t you participate in any insurance or managed care program?
LPW believes in protecting client’s privacy, as much as possible, and as a strengths-based and skill-building oriented practice, we work to identify our clients’ strengths and aptitudes rather than to focus on diagnosing particular disorders or mental health conditions. Whereas we are trained and licensed to diagnosis and will put a diagnosis on your receipt and Superbill, we prefer to treat emotional and behavioral problems creatively and conceptualize interventions tailored to fit the client and not necessarily employ the pathway a particular insurance company may mandate.
What is Therapy?
Therapy is a professional, helping relationship between a client and a trained psychotherapist. This relationship is based on therapeutic and ethical principles of client self-determination and empowerment. Whereas family members or friends may provide comfort and advice in times of need, a therapist is truly impartial and works from an unbiased perspective. All psychotherapists are Master’s level and clinically trained to provide therapy.
When to seek help?
Deciding to seek assistance from a professional is a difficult decision for many. However, there are some basic facts and situations that might help you to make that decision. Some situations require immediate, critical assistance (such as having suicidal or homicidal thoughts or actions) and others are less threatening but would benefit from guidance from a professional. Generally, if you have been feeling very stressed, depressed, worried and/or anxious over a few weeks and it is beginning to interfere with your life and your usual coping skills have not been able to solve the problem, then it would be advisable to seek a professional therapist.
How does therapy work?
Therapy works based on establishing a productive relationship – one in which the client can trust his or her new therapist. Building this trusting relationship can take time for some individuals, whereas others seem to open up more quickly to the process. Once a trusting relationship is established, the clinician works with the client on the treatment goals established by that client and/or his or her parents ( if a child) during the initial needs assessment process.
How will I know if therapy is working?
Many people experience an initial sense of relief once they start talking about what is bothering them. However, this initial relief can also be followed by more questions like,” how do I avoid those negative feelings again?” Or, “what can I do to keep feeling good?” We find that most people begin to get a sense that therapy is working when they find the answers to those very questions themselves and they are feeling more hopeful and empowered.
How long does therapy take?
Building any relationship takes time and the therapeutic relationship is no different. For some, a sense of trust evolves over a few sessions, whereas for others, really feeling safe to open up may take months. Clinicians strive to ask the right questions to unlock answers to our clients’ problems, but often getting to the solution depends more on clients truly trusting the clinician and being honest. We have clients who have felt that therapy has helped them enough to stop therapy after as few as twelve sessions. However, we also have clients that have been working in therapy for years. Ultimately, how long you are in therapy is up to you and when you decide you have met your goals. Our commitment is to work with you, as fast as possible, without compromising quality of care, to help you achieve your goals.
How can a nutritional consultation/evaluation help me?
LPW believes that it’s important to understand the connection between what we eat and how we feel. Getting an initial consultation and evaluation will give you information about how your own eating habits might be affecting your overall feeling of wellbeing. A consultation can provide you with some guidelines, if needed, about foods to eat, what foods may be interfering with your health and what you and your family can do to make changes to your eating, if appropriate. Is a nutritional consultation/evaluation insurance reimbursable?
Reimbursement depends on your insurance plan, although you should be able to get partial reimbursement. Registered dietitians and nutritionists can be reimbursable. What does your office look like?
